Personality.

Renji is somewhat of a social chameleon. He often pays attention to how he comes across to others and adjusts his behavior according to the situation. As a former shrine keeper, he has a very pious, dignified, and formal side to him. However, as he has been forced to leave such a duty behind, many often see Renji's more lax nature underneath the masks he often wears. Typically, Renji is very logical, calm, and graceful under pressure. Some may even consider him to be too lax or lazy for his own good. A person who enjoys Renji's company may appreciate him for his easygoing demeanor, witty way of speaking, and tendency to try and ease the tensions of his surroundings. On the flip side, an individual may find themselves frustrated by his passivity or seeming lack of urgency. No matter how he is viewed, one thing is certain: when Renji deems something to be his duty, he will loyally follow that responsibility.

Appearance.

Renji is a tall, young man with a slim build and light complexion. Despite being human, Renji has a strikingly colored head of hair, shining green like leaves in the sun. He keeps it relatively short, just enough to keep its fluffy and wavy texture, as well as long bangs that completely cover his forehead and slightly frame his face. Matching his hair in color is a relaxed pair of kind eyes. Preferring to keep the people around him at ease, he often wears a small smile.Running from both of his shoulders to the middle of his forearms are near-sleeves of black, stylized tattoos. Some people interpret them as the branches of a tree, a cluster of falling petals, the veins of a broadleaf, or even tiger stripes. A staple in all of his outfits are the assortment of small, scarlet piercings decorating his ears.

RITE OF BLOSSOMS: Renji causes life to bloom rapidly from a designated surface. At minimum, the rite creates an abundance of plants (or promotes the growth of existing plants) that harmlessly occupy the radius. At full power, these plants bloom forth profusely, creating a mess of ankle-high, untamed overgrowth. Treading the dense area will cause the plants to tangle around the intruder, slowing and attempting to restrain those who heedlessly enter the area of effect. Renji can either originate this radius in some manner from where he is located, or fire a harmless projectile of life mana to a designated point. Renji can finely control the radius, choosing what parts of the radius bloom to prevent the plants from snagging himself or allies. By High Mage, two instances of the spell can exist, and their total surface area cannot exceed the maximum radius of the spell (see "Overgrowth Radius").The growth will persist in trying to hold back any trespassers. Being caught in the radius will also cause targets to be sapped of their life mana, feeding the plants and leaving the targets feeling drained and sluggish. The combined afflictions mean that even those with the strongest buffs to their strength cannot break free on their own.If the radius has absorbed any life mana from the target, any previously damaged sections of this spell will refortify and grow back. The overgrowth can also form a symbiotic relationship and transfer the stolen life mana to other plant-based creations made by Renji, such as Earthly Tether, that are within the radius and mend them as well.Cast Range: 20 ft.
Range until the Spell Ends: 40 ft.
Overgrowth Radius: 20 ft.
Overgrowth Duration: 2 rotations.
Debuff Duration: 2 rotations (after leaving the radius)
Overgrowth Toughness: Cobalt
EARTHLY TETHER: Renji summons an incredibly thick vine, sprouted from a solid surface of his choosing. The vine remains stationary, but can stretch and perform a variety of feats at Renji's command, such as wrapping around a target, reeling things in, lashing out to strike foes, or pulling itself taut to function as a small surface. The vine appears braided, bearing a likeness to Shimenawa rope. The vine can unfurl the braid into three separate vines.Cast Range: 40 ft.
Vine Length: 40 ft.
Vine Duration: 4 rotations. (becomes indefinite at High Mage)
Max Supported Size: Creatures larger than the average human.
Vine Toughness & Damage Potential: Cobalt (scales to Titanium)
VOICE OF THE VERDANT: Renji can verbally convey basic thoughts and ideas with beasts, even those larger than himself, as well as comprehend their thoughts. This is not mind reading, and more like an empathetic channel of communication Renji creates with the spell. The spell is highly effective with at-rank creatures, but familiars and other creatures belonging to a mage require consent.Cast Range: 40 ft.FALSE MIST: Renji creates a large, dense fog of spores that looks like a cloud and feels like mist due to the moisture the spores attract. When Renji concentrates, he resonates with the latent life mana in the spores and can detect things that disturb the spores through movement and pinpoint their location in the cloud. If a creature comes into contact with the spores, the spores will cling to the individual and allow Renji to sense them for two rotations or until the spores are somehow cleaned or blown off. Inhaling the spores will allow Renji to sense a target for four rotations. The spores themselves scale from Iron to Cobalt Toughness, and spells meant to interact with airborne substances must also be of rank to contest the spell. Faith magic works similarly with regard to the spores acting as contagion or an infection.Moisture gathers so heavily among the spores that the cloud can act as a form of protection against fire. Flames (mundane or below the spell's defensive properties) engulfed by False Mist will be snuffed out. Pyromancy that somehow manages to strike any of Renji's otherwise flammable, plant-based creations within the mist will also have their flames prevented from spreading.Cast Range: 30 ft.
Cloud Radius: 30 ft.
Sensory Duration (if touching the spores): 2 rotations
Sensory Duration (if inhaled the spores): 4 rotations
Toughness and Fire Resistance: Cobalt (scales to Titanium)
SPINE OF THE EARTH: Renji can create a sturdy, rectangular pillar of wood, erupting from a surface at any desired angle. The pillar is about 10 ft. tall and 5 ft. wide. Its primary purpose is to shield Renji. Plant-based spells cast by Renji can grow off of the pillar’s surface. When Renji pours more life mana into the construct, the pillar animates and can bend and curve. Lasts two rotations unless Renji recasts the spell to extend the duration. It can form on magical surfaces that meet one of the following criteria: the magical surface is a creation made by Renji; the magical surface has earthy or nature-like qualities to it and the surface is the spell's rank or lower; it is a Paganism spell that specifically permits this type of spell to sprout from it.Cast Range: 15 ft.
Pillar Height: 10 ft.
Pillar Width: 5 ft.
Toughness: Cobalt

PAGANISM
"The Pagans are mages who wield destructive forces of nature and even creation in some cases. A Pagan may begin with simple abilities, such as talking to animals, making plants grow, or creating small rain clouds. However, as these mages practice and hone their craft, powerful storms will accumulate at their command, and charging beasts will follow their every word.
Such mages even possess the ability to cultivate and assault others with deadly diseases and viruses, and can manipulate natural disasters, or even create beasts from their own imagination after attaining highly skilled control with their magic.Upon reaching the rank of Mage, Pagans gain access to a unique mana type known as “Life Force.” Life Force is a magical energy found within all natural living things that Pagans can tap into, or produce themselves, in order to apply boons or special nature-related effects to their spells and/or creations."

STATIC SHROUD: Renji shrouds himself in a bubble of electricity to defend himself from harm. Renji is easily visible within the sphere, and it is only about as wide as Renji can bring out his arms. Despite it only being for Renji himself, the spell follows Renji as he moves, lasting 3 rotations. Making direct, physical contact with the electricity, whether by touching the bubble or being brushed against it will deliver a shock, its severity (as well as destruction of what it touches) scaling with Renji’s level (scales from Tin to Iron). It is merely sculpted, raw energy; it has no resistance against solid objects; that being said, the bubble’s defenses (only if applicable to the situation) also scale with his rank (up to Mage). By Mage Rank, Renji’s other Electromancy spells can be fired through the bubble without disturbing or damaging it.Cast Range: Self.
Duration: 3 rotations.
Bubble Size: Arm's length.
Toughness: Tin (Scales to Iron)
Damage Potential: Tin (Scales to Iron).
RADIANT BRANCH: Renji fires a bolt of electricity from his fingertips. The bolt can puncture Tin-grade durability (scaling up to Iron) and has a range of 20 ft. When the branch collides with something solid (whether inanimate or living), Renji may cause it to ricochet off of and strike a new target, allowing the bolt to zigzag across the battlefield. The spell must still abide by its own range limitations when it changes course (if it traveled 10 ft and Renji causes it to ricochet off of a wall, it has 10 ft. left for example).Striking metallic objects or things with metallic properties will allow Renji to change the direction of the bolt one additional time to the default ricochet count (see below).Range: 20 ft.
Ricochet Count: 1 (scales to 2 at Mage)
Damage Potential: Tin (Scales to Iron)
THUNDER STEP: Renji accumulates lightning mana around himself and uses it to gain a burst of speed, allowing him to quickly travel a short distance in what appears to be instant (requires processing speeds of at least 3x for the naked eye to track his movement). This is not teleportation; Renji will physically collide with anything obstructing his path. After being cast, Renji gains a buff to his speed.Dash Distance: 10 ft. (Scales to 20 ft. at Mage)
Speed Buff Multiplier: x2 with an upper limit cap of x4. (Scales to x3 and x6 respectively)
Buff Duration: 2 rotations (4 rotations at Mage)

ELECTROMANCY
" Control of electricity and lightning. Electromancers excel at using their craft as a pure source of energy which they manipulate, and can give their mana magnetic and plasmonic properties at higher ranks."
— "List of All Trees." by Ulreich University

Universals.

Mana Manipulation: The inborn ability of living things to manipulate raw mana. Raw mana lacks special qualities, but can act as vital the building blocks for certain spells, such as the ones taught in the classrooms of Ulreich University. Renji's mana, in its rawest form, takes on a harsh, lime green hue, the small, ephemeral particles coming off of such projections appearing to be like petals or leaves in the breeze.Mana Spark: A projectile of raw mana. Capable of negligible damage, merely stinging the flesh.

Renji’s Home World: Proserpina
Beyond the great expanse, far from that of the world Renji has stumbled upon in the present day, lies the once green planet of Proserpina. The lands of Proserpina brimmed with life force. Plants and animals were not only plentiful, but gigantic. Humanoids, and by extension civilization, could not bend the environment to their will as easily; rather, humanity had to learn how to coexist with nature here. Thus, the first mages on Proserpina were pagans, druids, and (although fewer in number) elementalists who adapted to the land around them. The pagans and druids would live deep within forests, or nestle themselves reclusively in lands wracked with natural disasters, minimally disturbing the land around them to not upset the balance.
As change is the constant of nature, however, so were the people who lived alongside it. The inhabitants of Proserpina advanced to a point comparable to that of a New World-- only being perhaps a few steps behind. A person from present-day Earth might equate Proserpina’s average advancement to that of the early 1900s. An observer might find this fact surprising, or even jarring, however, if they lived where Renji lived for most of his life. Dotting the countryside are plenty of villages where humankind live a little closer to how they did in days long past.
